ABOUT

Matt Baglio

Matt Baglio is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Rite: The making of a Modern Exorcist, which has been translated into more than eighteen languages. The book was also adapted into a movie produced by Warner Bros and starring Anthony Hopkins, which grossed more than $100 million worldwide.

He is also the co-author of Argo: How the CIA and Hollywood Pulled Off the Most Audacious Rescue in History, which was a New York Times, and USA Today best seller. The story of Argo became the basis for a film by the same name starring Ben Affleck, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2013.

In 2019, Baglio co-authored a second book with Antonio and Jonna Mendez The Moscow Rules, which was described by the New York Times as “devilishly fun,” and was an Amazon editor’s pick for best nonfiction.

Baglio’s most recent project was writing and hosting a true-crime podcast Over My Dead Body: Fox Lake, which aired on October 5, 2021. The six-episode podcast, produced by Wondery, debuted at #1 on Apple podcasts, where it remained in the top spot for more than a month, accumulating close to seven million downloads. It was also nominated for an Ambie and a Webby for best true-crime podcast of the year.

A tenacious researcher, Baglio strives to inhabit the worlds he documents in his books. In the process of working on The Rite, he interviewed close to twenty exorcists and sat in on more than thirty official Catholic exorcisms, one of only a handful of outsiders ever to be allowed to do so.
